Andy & Jen Buy Their First Home!

As my fiance and I looked to purchase our first home my parents warned us that real estate agents are all about money. They joined a whole chorus of voices who told me to “be careful” or end up being taken advantage of.

Sorry, Mom and Dad, but I found an exception. Neil Mathweg.

Neil was recommended to me. But that didn’t mean I wasn’t going to check him out. In fact, I’m the kind of guy who visits every shoe store in the mall before I buy a pair of shoes.

Yet something happened the first time I sat down with Neil. We were talking. The time flew by. And suddenly I realized that I didn’t want to talk to anybody else.

I don’t know how Neil does it. Drive around Eastern Dane County and you see his name on “for sale” signs everywhere. He must be the busiest guy alive. Yet, when he’s talking to you, it’s like you’re the only person he thinks about. He’s 100% focused on you.

We had plenty of ups and downs as we tried to find the home that was right for us. But Neil was there for us, and remained our friend even when we were ready to give up.

Then, it happened. At 6 am on a Tuesday morning our dream house appeared on the MLS. Neil got us in to see it on Wednesday, and had an offer to the seller by Wednesday night. The seller received several other offers in the next few days, but she chose ours because we got there first.

Thank you, Neil. If it wasn’t for you, it wouldn’t have happened.

For those of you reading this: I don’t know what you’re looking for in a Realtor, but if you want someone who genuinely cares about you and knows real estate inside and out, Neil is your guy.

Mark and Kathy Williams Share Their Story

When we pounded a “For Sale By Owner” sign into our front lawn, it came as no surprise that our mailbox was soon full of letters from Realtors. Most of them thought we were crazy. The letters they sent all said the same thing: “When you wake up, call me.”

But there was an exception: Neil Mathweg. Instead of trying to convert us, he encouraged us. He offered tips on how to stage our home and how to sell it.

Later, when we decided to list our home, we remembered Neil’s positive attitude. Even so, we asked around. The people we talked to all said the same thing: “Neil Mathweg.”

Hmm. We dropped him an email, hoping someone from his office would get back to us in a day or two. Fifteen minutes later, Neil himself called.

I said to Mark, “We’re just going to meet him. No decision tonight, okay?”

I have to smile when I think of that, because from the moment Neil walked in the door, we knew he was the one. We immediately felt a warm personal connection. As our conversation unfolded, he took the time to explain everything. Before the evening was over, we only had one question: “Where do we sign?”

It was a smart business decision to work with Neil. We both knew that from the get go. But what we didn’t know was that Neil would end up becoming a good friend. It quickly became clear that Neil cared about us. He cared about our family. We knew he had our best interests at heart. He was open, honest, thoughtful. Even though we knew how busy he was, every time he talked with us he made us feel like we were the only people in the world.

Neil found a buyer for our home, and helped us find a new home to buy. When circumstances beyond anyone’s control forced us to sell our home ten days before we could close on a replacement, Neil went out of his way to make us comfortable at our temporary quarters. He even bought our family a gift certificate for a night out.

We started out hoping to sell a house. Yes, we sold our house and bought another. But, in the process, we gained a friend.

Buying and selling real estate can be enormously stressful. But Neil made it easy. His great sense of humor made the whole journey enjoyable. With Neil it was just plain fun.

Most real estate agents are interested in what? Making money, of course! How do they make money? On their commissions. The bigger the sale, the more money they make.

That’s why we were amazed when Neil recommended that we look for a cheaper house. Yes, we qualified for a loan in a certain price range. And, yes, at our request, he did show us homes in that price range. But, then he took us aside. “Listen, guys,” he said. “I think we can get just what you need at a much better price.”

Neil sacrificed his commission to save us $45,000. There aren’t too many Realtors who would do that. But then Neil isn’t an ordinary real estate guy. To begin with, he can multi-task like no one I’ve ever seen. Even though he has a thousand things going on at any given moment, he treats you like you’re the person he ever thinks about. He’s super attentive. And, when it’s time to move, he knows how to get things done. He wrote our offer on a holiday, putting us first in line, and getting us into exactly the home that was right for us.

When someone referred us to Neil, I thought we were finding a real estate agent. I never knew that we would be gaining a good friend. Neil has become like a mentor to us. He teaches classes; we’ve attended them and have learned much about leadership and financial management.

Neil knows how to laugh. He knows how to make others laugh. He knows how to set you at ease. But when it’s time to get the job done, he knows exactly what he’s doing. You can’t go wrong working with him.
